Foundry Request for Quote (RFQ)
With the initial list of potential casting vendors available, your request for quotation should be prepared in a way to insure that a foundry knows all the details that impact him so that a valid quotation (both cost and time) can be developed.
The information that should be included in your RFQ should include, but not be limited to:
- Legible, proper revision level, drawings and other portions of the data package that alter or expand upon the drawing requirements.
- Alloy
- Casting process
- Quality requirements
- Tooling data: Are you able to furnish casting tooling (patterns, wax molds, core boxes) or will new tooling need to be produced by the foundry
- Quantity required, both production quantity and first article, if required
- Required delivery dates, including both first article and production quantity
- Machining stock and flatness requirements if you do not have a separate casting drawing
- Non destructive testing requirements
- Casting documentation requirements (chemical analyses, mechanical property determination, etc.)
