To use the Defense Tooling Locator, the subscriber has the
option of searching by any one or a combination of the following
parameters:
- National Stock
Number (NSN): The 13 digit stock number replacing the 11
digit Federal Stock Number. It consists of the 4 digit Federal
Supply Classification Code and the 9 digit National Item
Identification Number (NIIN). NIIN consists of 2 digit National
Codification Bureau Number designating the central cataloging
office of the NATO or other friendly country which assigned the
number and a 7 digit non-significant number.
- Finished Part
Number: Part number designated by a Government Entity and is
referenced as the official part number on original design data.

- Weapons
System: The weapons system(s) that the part is associated
with (Ex. Trident Submarine)
- Part
Description: User may search by using words or parts of
words that are included in the part description the part. To search
for bracket, angle - user types in the word 'bracket' or the word
'angle', or a combination of the words, or a portion of the word
(brack). The part descriptions are the same as the Item Name Codes
(INC) specified by the Defense Logistics Information Systems
(DLIS).
The search engine will produce a list of hyperlinks to part(s)
matching the criteria specified. The user will select the hyperlink
that they would like to find the tooling information it will take
the user to the information page for that part.
